OKI buys Seiko Infotech and moves into wide format

With effect from October 1, OKI Data Corporation (the printer arm of the OKI Group) has acquired Seiko Infotech, a subsidiary of Seiko Instruments. Seiko Infotech manufacture wide-format inkjet printers for signage and graphics, and LED printers for professional CAD and related markets, and supply related consumables and services worldwide through distributors and regional headquarters in California and Germany. The Seiko Infotech "ColorPainter" range are equipped with piezoelectric heads for jetting thicker, low-solvent ink.

Their co-operation with Toshiba on A3 MFPs notwithstanding, OKI Data's recent ranges of printers have been largely of the desktop design albeit with some A3 models with innovative white-toner and 5-color variants aimed at marketing departments and print shops.  The 5-color A3 machines have been snapped up around the globe - but this acquisition of a wide-format manufacturer puts OKI firmly in the production printing marketplace.
